FE lecturers can now teach in secondary schools, the GTC has told heads. But they must hold a teaching qualification and be registered with the GTC. At present, only 1,200 are currently registered, 8 per cent of the total.
Lecturers will only be allowed to teach 16-18s and to take subjects not already available in schools. Colleges and schools concerned must also be in a partnership.
The advent of Higher Still’s integrated post-16 curriculum, was one of the catalysts for change.
In a letter to secondary heads, Ivor Sutherland, the GTC’s registrar, said standards would not be diluted and the curriculum should be broadened.
