UNIVERSITY lecturers have called off industrial action - including a boycott of Office for Standards in Education inspections - after a breakthrough in talks with vice-chancellors on ending pay discrimination and casualisation among academics.

Despite no progress on basic pay - employers imposed a 3.5 per cent rise this summer against claims of 10 per cent - employers have agreed to talks with the Association of University Teachers on ending discrimination which sees women and ethnic minority staff paid less.
