Lesson from Christmas past

Hannah Smith’s “Home truths for teacher-parents” (TES2, October 17) was hilarious. When my children were small, both my wife and I were teachers. Hannah’s clever piece rings true.

My habit of taking my children’s books and toys into schools to use in my lessons ended one Christmas morning when my son opened a present and said: “Is it really for me or will it be going to school?“We congratulate the astute Hannah and look to see an impressive journalist with that name in the 21st century.
