Study Chapter 2 of Good Wives by Louisa M Alcott, and set groups of students to discuss the importance in the extract of summertime, fashion, roses, drinking, family.

Students should read Chapter 26 of Jane Eyre and consider what it reveals about the character of Mr Rochester. How far is he heroic? How far is he villainous?
