Almost four out of 10 young people (37 per cent) believe the voting age should remain at 18 and cite lack of confidence and understanding about politics.
Article 12, a youth-led charity, canvassed 1,000 young people across Scotland and found that more than 60 per cent were n favour of lowering the voting age. They were able to marry, work and pay taxes at 16 and therefore should be able to vote, they said.
But a significant minority are still uncertain. Article 12 wants politics introduced into the first-year secondary curriculum.
