We commend the Scottish Executive for keeping authorities informed of the latest developments in international studies. Officials are being summoned to a ministerial briefing next Wednesday in Edinburgh on the Programme for International Student Assessment - fondly known as PISA, no doubt because of its right leanings.

The Executive's letter refers to countries that achieve high "equity of performance". It goes on to say that the director of PISA will give a presentation to "Eucation" ministers at the end of January. And, finally, it invites education officers to come along on Wednesday to "Dymanic" Earth in Edinburgh.

This emerged from the Executive's communication division.
