I was extremely disappointed to see the negative slant of your report on one of the sessions of the inquiry into the Scottish government’s 1+2 languages proposal at the Scottish Parliament’s European and External Affairs Committee (“Languages expert hits out at ‘unclear’ report”, 1 February).
Professor Antonella Sorace of the University of Edinburgh, director of Bilingualism Matters, spoke vibrantly of the positive benefits of early language exposure and learning. She is an international expert in this field and her comments should have been mentioned.
I was the fourth member of the panel and I gave my full support to the 1+2 languages proposal, which means working together, by careful strategic planning and innovative collaborative projects, to achieve the development in language skills that are so important in the education of our young people.
I do hope that your readers will look at the full report of the session on the committee’s website
