Letters Extra: Are they by chance related?

It was interesting to see the photograph of David Miliband (TES, January 10) with its caption: “David Milliband defends the government bynbsp;blaming achievement gaps on poor teaching.”

But was this the same David Milliband who appeared, at roughly the same time, on BBC Breakfast television saying that we now had “the best teaching force that we have ever had”?

Which of these statements, I wonder, does he believe? Or does New Labour spin now include saying different things to different audiences to cheat the clapometer?nbsp;
