Letters Extra: Good guys or bad guys?

I am writing with reference to your article of March 01 ” North wind ofnbsp;change ” bynbsp;Mark Pattison (TES January 3). The article alluded to the performance ofnbsp;Education Bradford and Serco, the company which provides leadership. Mr Pattison notes that, “encouraging signs of progress” have beennbsp;achieved and refers to an Audit Commission assessment in December: “We are forging an effective partnership involving Serco - the company I now work for under the name of Education Bradford” ... and “the signs are encouraging - results are improving confidence is growing and progress isnbsp;being made”. Further investigation reveals that “Serco signed a pound;360 million contract to run Education Bradford but only received pound;8,450 out ofnbsp;a possible pound;870,000 in financial incentives under the contract”.
In view of the above I was a little surprised by an article in the Yorkshire Post of December 12nbsp; headlined, “Education firm misses 47 ofnbsp;its 52 targets”.
Whilst not wishing to denigrate the progress made in schools by people under the aegis of Mr Pattison’s organisation, the achievements referrednbsp;to may be a little more modest than first appears.
