Letters extra: It’s all the EU’s fault

We constantly read of the current shortage of teachers and I am therefore astounded by the way we treat some overseas teachers who are willing to work here. I understand that teachers from the European Union plus some non EU member countries are considered qualified to teach here. Some do not have a good control of the English language. Yet a teacher from the USA who is highly qualified must work as unqualified and take various tests before being accepted. Is it any wonder that our schools are under-staffed and not up to standard. Once again we are being dictated to by the EU.
