Letters extra: Measure of excellence

While I support the general thrust of Libby Purves’ article on university teaching, she makes an all-too-common error. She implies that tutors who publish little or nothing, or who spend a lot of time with students, must thereby be good, even excellent, teachers. Students would tell her differently!
