It is now 40 years since the Robbins Report on higher education (1963) was published and no politician has made reference to it during the current debate about socio-economic class access to higher education.
Speaking as a senior citizen I am compelled to refresh memories. Robbins recommended a big expansion to make places available for all who were qualified and able to benefit - especially encouraging more women and working-class students.
Politicians need to get a grasp of the facts!
