Professor Ball is as right as Ron Gellert-Binnie is wrong. (Letters TES2803 page 27). Setting cramps, constrains and depresses the opportunities of those trapped at the bottom; both teachers and pupils: a bit like the old grammar school-secondary modern school system really!

Teachers don’t like setting and they don’t want it; pupils don’t flourish in such a system; and it is educationally as well as socially divisive.

Don’t do it Ron!
