ICT is a core educational skill and I find it absurd that Claire Fox suggests that it degrades the intellectual capacity needed to read and write (Another Voice TES May 25).

She argues the danger of making the “acquisition of banal tasks an outcome”. The development of ICT isn’t just about learning an application but the ability to discern what is relevant and, to use Claire Fox’s words, “cogent and enlightening”. At the core of GNVQ ICT programmes lies the importance of organising data into information and validating it.

ICT will revolutionise learning because people will be able to access a vast wealth of information where access has previously been denied and they will be able to choose how and when they want to learn.
