The south London school criticised by shadow chancellor Oliver Letwin has received a glowing inspection report.

Lilian Baylis school in Lambeth was described as “an effective school” which “does well by its pupils”. Inspectors said pupils attained “better standards than ... expected given their starting point”.

Last October Mr Letwin, an Old Etonian, was forced to apologise after saying he would rather go out on the streets and beg than send his children to the school.
