PLANS to change the A-level points system could see an E-grade worth half as much as an A, under proposals being considered by the University and Colleges Admissions Service. UCAS is consulting universities on whether an A-grade should be worth two, three or five times as much as an E. An A is currently worth ten points and an E two points. The new framework will also award points for new AS-levels, GNVQs, key skills, Scottish Highers and access courses and could be introduced as early as September 2000.
