A-level worries

The Government and exam boards have not properly questioned whether A-level standards have slipped because of the pressure on everyone in education to raise grades, the head of a major awarding body said last night. Simon Lebus, group chief executive of Cambridge Assessment, which runs the OCR board, said that it was "hard not to be troubled" by recent independent claims that the exams have got easier.
