Included in the projects it is supporting is a new playing field for Connel, near Oban, which will provide a safe area for children to take part in football, rugby, shinty and athletics. The village currently has no playing field.
In Fife, a new climbing wall is to be built in Cairneyhill,which will benefit local children, and in Dumfries and Galloway, Douglas Ewart High school, in Newton Stewart, will have a new sports centre with a fitness suite and exercise studio.
“Remote communities can face particular problems in accessing proper sports facilities,” says Ian Robson, chief executive of Sportscotland, “which is why, at Sportscotland, we believe it is important to give priority to projects on islands and rural areas.”
