(Photograph) - The pound;5m award winning Peckham Library and media centre was opened to the public in March this year and is a vision in patinated green copper, rainbow glass and woven stainless-steel mesh, capped with what the architects, Alsop amp; Stormer, call a “jaunty orange beret” (the roof of the African-Caribbean reading room). It s shaped like a giant inverted L for Library but for good measure also has “Library” spelt out in giant white letters mounted on its flat roof. It is also home to a children’s library, multimedia centre (with computer training for jobseekers) a meeting room for up to 50 people, and a playroom or “activity centre” for children.
