I would like to correct a mistake in the report on college libraries “Librarians stay on the shelves” (TES, January 19).
One third of all heads of college library services - not of all library and information services (LIS) staff as reported - are on clerical grade six or below. Almost half of all professionally qualified LIS staff are on or below this grade. The figure of 25,000 workers refers to the total Library Association membership in all sectors. We have about 1,500 members in the further education sector.
