Friends and Heroes, an animated action-adventure for religious education, has been awarded the CBC Gold Award for the Best YouthChildren’s programme in 2007.

Shown in March on CBBC, the first series can be seen on BBC2 and is available on seven DVDs. Two more series, in 2008 and 2009, will continue the theme of telling Bible stories to support primary RE throughout the UK.

Featuring state-of-the-art 2D and 3D animation, Friends and Heroes tells the story of first-century young people, Macky and Portia, who meet in Roman-occupied Alexandria.

The DVD contains 13 lesson plans and pupil worksheets created in association with The Stapleford Centre, an independent Christian education organisation. Children can learn more about the series, the history of the period, interact with the characters and find synopses of episodes, links to Bible stories, quizzes, puzzles and games, plus interactive galleries where they can post their own creations.
