A TEENAGE girl has been sentenced to life in prison for beating a younger classmate to death.
In 1998 Kelly Ellard, now 17, kicked and punched 14-year-old Reena Virk before holding her head under water.
Jurors in British Colombia found Ellard guilty of second-degree murder. They believed testimony from another six high-school girls already conicted under the Young Offenders Act for their roles in the attack.
Ellard was the second of Virk’s assailants to be tried in an adult court. The other, Warren Glowatski, now 18, was convicted last year and also sentenced to life in prison. However, because they were juveniles when they killed Virk, each will be eligible for parole after seven years.
