The front-page report (“Plans for lifelong learning torn up,” TES, February 6) is completely wide of the mark. It is fantasy to imagine that a paper was “at the printers”. The first and only date announced for publication was February 25.

It is absurd to suggest that our plans have been “torn up”. We are publishing our innovative and far-reaching proposals in full, with the responses to Dearing and Kennedy on the same day.

This demonstrates the Government’s commitment to lifelong learning - people will judge us by the extent of our proposals and commitment, not by creative reporting.
