Teacher assessments will be published in England alongside key stage 2 (ages seven to 11) Sats tests from next year, with “light touch” moderation of assessment following in 2011. This is one of the proposals in a new Children, Schools and Families Bill, Labour’s 10th education bill at Westminster in 12 years. The move on Sats is taken as a hint they may be phased out, as Schools Secretary Ed Balls comes under intense pressure in the run-up to an election to avoid the threat of a boycott of next year’s tests by the National Association of Head Teachers and the National Union of Teachers.
