This major retrospective of the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the most influential photographers of all time, makes its only UK appearance in Edinburgh. From the late 1920s, the notoriously reticent Frenchman pioneered the development of spontaneous photography, refusing to stage photographs, and aiming always to capture the “decisive moment” of drama in any situation. This exhibition, the largest of Cartier-Bresson’s work ever staged in Britain, contains more than 200 photographs and drawings, scrapbooks, reviews and portraits of the man himself taken by his peers.
