As televisions and computers continue their slow process of convergence, the schools departments are providing timetables and support material on Internet sites, which teachers are free to download, save onto a disc or print out.
Programme guides, sample pupils activities and a noticeboard on which teachers can leave their comments are available on Channel 4‘s Internet site, in a service provided by its publications section, the Educational Television Company. Among the programme guides available are for Science in Focus and Eurokids, with activities and notes for series including Eureka’s units on Ancient Egypt.
In an appropriately electronic mode, inquiries about this on-line service can be sent and answered by e-mail.
BBC Education is also offering support material for its schools and adult education broadcasts, with details of times, resources and links to further information. This includes 5,000 cross-referenced link points, listed by curriculum subject or topic, and the Internet Experience, which gives teachers advice on how to use the Internet for educational purposes.
