The recently launched website for Craighead School, in Hamilton, uses Browsealoud, a so-called screen-reading package. The school, whose 170 primary and secondary pupils have special educational needs, is one of the first in Scotland to use the technology.
The website contains practical information such as holiday dates and contact details, and describes work done across the curriculum. It allows pupils to retrieve files at home and use the school email system.
Headteacher John McEnaney said: “Many of our pupils have problems with text on screens, and we felt it was important they didn’t feel excluded from the excitement which the website launch has generated throughout the whole school community.”
About 7 million people in the UK have difficulty reading text on screens.
