It is disappointing that the representatives of FE are still trying to marginalise youth work within the proposed sector skills council for lifelong learning (“Seats on ‘shadow’ board agreed”, FE Focus, October 10).

Youth work has a UK-wide set of national occupational standards; a qualifications framework at all levels up to masters degrees; an independent validation system; and an agreed statement of ethical conduct to guide workers. Has FE already got all of this - or does it simply not want to learn from others in lifelong learning?
