In response to the report “Minister in the dark as shortages loom” (TESS, March 2), it comes as no great surprise to some of us.
Mismanagement, lack of forward planning, indifference to the precarious financial plight of supply teachers, do little to encourage newly qualifed teachers who are so poorly appreciated to persevere with a career in teaching.
To my certain knowledge many supply teachers pack it in after two or three years and secure more rewarding permanent work elsewhere.
