Pupils at Rhys Jones’s school remembered him this week with a minute’s applause as they returned after the summer break.

Parents arriving at Broad Square primary in Liverpool were asked to wait in the playground with their children until the bell sounded.

The 11-year-old, who was shot dead on his way home from football practise, was due to start secondary school on Wednesday.
