Local idyll

Foundation schools that control their own admissions are the same as grammars. The Prime Minister's plans for such schools will widen the gap between rich and poor and are deeply flawed.

If we want harmonious communities, children should attend their local school, and parents should give good reasons if they do not want to do so.

Peak-time school-run traffic will plunge; children can keep fit by walking to school and play with neighbours after-school; "sink schools" will be avoided.
