The global positioning system (GPS) is a wonderful invention that can locate locations anywhere on Earth. But all those sophisticated satellites and communications devices are useless if you are visually impaired and cannot read a screen. Now Sight and Sound Technology has produced “the first fully-speaking GPS system”.

“Not only does it tell the user where to go at a junction,” says Peter Bradburn, “but also what road he is on and what points of interest are in the neighbourhood.” The system costs pound;1,125 plus VAT.

Other new products on offer include the first speaking personal digital assistant for the blind and the latest version of the magnification and speech-output software Zoomtext.
