TES books editor Geraldine Brennan on the inside literary track
Log in your diary the next chance to get published - as long as it’s after your 50th birthday. HarperCollins Children’s Books has noticed that the over-50s buy 17 million children’s books a year, and has collaborated with Saga magazine to find new writing talent. Unpublished writers aged over 50 will be invited in September’s issue of Saga to submit manuscripts of between 20,000 and 60,000 words aimed at eight to 14-year-olds, having first read the masterclass features by HarperCollins children’s authors.
These start in the May issue with Michael Morpurgo and moving on to Garth Nix, Diana Wynne Jones, Lynne Reid Banks and Katherine Langrish. For full details go to www.saga.co.ukmagazine
