A logical choice

We were pleased The TES gave due prominence last week to the NAHT’s search for a new general secretary. However, your article did not give a balanced view of David Hawker’s considerable achievements in the field of education.

Instead, negative comments from unnamed sources were quoted.

David Hawker met every one of the stringent criteria agreed by the NAHT’s personnel committee, having been successful in a number of leadership roles in high-profile organisations, as well as becoming used to dealing with the media and well known for his work at national level. His experience as a teacher and head of modern languages, his work as head of curriculum and assessment with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, and his current role leading a local authority through a successful merger of education and children’s social care, give him the right background to take on the role of general secretary.

We were delighted to be able to recommend David Hawker for the post. He will bring a wealth of talent and experience to the NAHT that will benefit all our members and our staff.

We are confident that his personal style will enable him to offer the leadership and support our members need at this time of unprecedented change and challenge for school leaders.
