The New Socialist Republic of Newton Mearns and Eastwood, commonly known as East Renfrewshire Council, retains its Conservative relics, more commonly known as Iain Drysdale.
The Tory councillor joined in the plaudits for the authority’s top-performing school, St Ninian’s High, which shares a campus with the council offices. An HMI report has just awarded the school one of the highest ratings ever in Scotland.
“I’ve got one complaint,” Drysdale said last week. “The school’s too good. The traffic at Eastwood Toll is terrible in the morning. What are you going to do about it?” “Join me on traffic supervision,” quipped headteacher Jim McVittie before he sped off to see about his new huts. Now that’s another story.
