I finish my induction in July and I want to move to London as my partner has found a job there. I’m a bit nervous. I’ll be living in central London but I have no idea how many schools there are. Should I be looking for an education-related job instead of a teaching job?

A: There are 33 different local authorities running schools in London plus a larger than average number of schools in the private sector. Jobs are easier to find than in other parts of the country since turnover is above the national average. Many schools are experiencing rising rolls. The extensive transport network means that if you are living in the centre you will have a wide choice of schools, and you will be travelling against the main commuter flows. Start looking for jobs now and you should be able to make a smooth transition. Embrace the opportunity; don’t give up teaching.
