THERE seemed to be one glaring omission from your survey of pay in education.

What about those people who create and mark the exams that form the basis of the league tables by which the whole system is judged?

As a principal examiner at A-level for one of the major exam boards my time s valued at pound;10.45 an hour for meetings and the fee I receive for creating a two and-a-quarter hour paper is pound;216.44 - before tax, that is. Now let’s think, which category would that put me in - Top Cats or Slim Pickings?
