Cheeky chappy Fred Macaulay was at his quippiest best when he compered the recent New Deal launch in Glasgow.

The Radio Scotland broadcaster, writer and comedian reminded his audience of a previous existence as a chartered accountant. Macaulay recalled: “I did that for a decade but I wasn’t very good at it. In fact, it was 14 years wasted.”
