Jayne Morgan, a primary supply teacher in Swansea, is on her second copy of John Foster’s Second Poetry Book, compiled for Oxford University Press (pound;3.99). The first one wore out.

“It is the most marvellous fun, and contains lots of poems that tell stories that children between six and 11 can relate to and enjoy. Particular favourites to read aloud are ‘My Dad, Your Dad’, ‘I Used to Have a Little ed Alarm Clock’ and (very, very, popular) ‘The Visitor’. It gets children hooked on poems; they want to read it for themselves; they fight over it. I have used it for 15 years and nothing beats it for that 20-minute slot with juniors at the end of a hard day.”

We pay pound;40 for each recommendation published. Write to Love it, TES Friday, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1W 1BX
