Teaching assistants, or TAs, are an essential part of school life, providing invaluable support, expertise and classroom knowledge.

Last Friday, trade union Unison organised a TA appreciation day in a bid to recognise each and every TA working to make a difference in their school.

People took to social media to give a shout-out to TAs for the work that they do:

As well as all the cake, flowers and thanks being given in schools across the country, TAs up and down the land were nominated by their teachers to win an iPad as part of a TES competition.

The winner of the TES #loveTAs competition was nominated by Rebecca Thomas on the TES Connect Facebook page. She nominated her TA Lucy Carr “for being so dedicated, caring and fair in her job”.

Rebecca explains: “As a TA in a school for students with severe learning difficulties every day is different and often challenging, but Lucy rises to every challenge thrown at her and is loved by staff and students alike. She is my right hand, and I would be lost without her.”
