Following your article “Colleges denied post-19 funding” (TES, May 2), the Learning and Skills Council would like to clear up any confusion.

The LSC is putting pound;1.8 billion into adult education and training next year. Given the importance of meeting the skills needs of the economy, we are focusing priorities on delivering qualifications at Levels 2 and 3, and on skill shortage areas.

When the Government publishes its Skills Strategy in the summer, it will be important that the different responsibilities of the state, individuals and employers are made clear.

Local LSCs will be discussing with colleges how to rebalance activities to deliver priorities identified though local strategic plans.
