Among the guests at a recent reception laid on by Number 10 to reward the toilers in the field of education was Pauline Latham, the fragrant chairman of the Grant Maintained Schools Advisory Committee. It would seem Mrs Latham’s talent for one-upmanship was not impaired by almost rubbing shoulders with the powerful.
