Some of the UK’s biggest cultural organisations have joined forces with TES to give teachers unprecedented online access to a range of their extraordinary resources.

The British Museum, the V&A, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Arts Council England will work with TES and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on the project.

From June, each of the cultural organisations will focus on a curriculum element, such as Shakespeare, and upload a host of resources to the TES website for teachers to access.

It is planned that hundreds of thousands of new images, videos, classroom resources, artist and maker’s guides, archive film clips, celebrity interviews, professional development materials and lesson packs will become available online.

The impact that these resources have on teaching and results will be analysed through data and dialogue with teachers.

The organisations involved also hope to improve the provision of cultural education in schools and to support the teaching of several areas of the core curriculum.

British Museum director Neil MacGregor said: “The British Museum is committed to showing how object-based learning can bring history to life, as we have recently demonstrated in the Teaching History with 100 Objects project.

“Our 100 resources, which are based on fascinating objects from 40 museums across the UK, will now be able to be part of TES Global in this extremely exciting new pilot project, as we seek to make a reality of our ambition to engage all children with museum objects that tell both local and global stories.”

Ed Vaizey, minister of culture and the digital economy, added: “[This campaign] is driven by the needs of teachers who are increasingly using digital resources in the classroom alongside textbooks.”
