Music has helped to turn primary pupils on to tennis in more than 40 schools through a programme now being offered to all teachers.

Tennis Skills to Music is a structured approach to teaching the sport and includes warm-ups, skill development, game skills, competition and mini-tennis tournaments. Music is used to help focus pupils’ attention and improve their fluency of movement.

It was aimed at 6- to 11-year-olds and is now also being followed by secondary schools.

The course, developed by Jill Follett, a PE teacher and licensed tennis coach, comes with 30 lesson plans supported by a CD of music.
