I WAS delighted to see that Margaret Hodge, MP and chair of the education select committee, seeks to reward talent rather than time-serving (TES, April 10).

Last week, I received a glowing report from the Office for Standards in Education for a subject I don’t teach to a class I don’t know. (As the only male member of staff, I wonder who I was confused with!) That’s real talent. Can I have a rise?
