An application for a mathematics teacher post with Derbyshire County Council begins with the important note: “The council operates an equal opportunities policy to ensure that all people receive equal treatment in employment regardless of age, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, race, creed, colour and origin.”

Very commendable, of course, all people should receive equal treatment. However, the next sentence appears to contradict this: “Applications are particularly welcome from minority communities, women and disabled people. ”

Politically correct it may be, but hardly fair, particularly for a white, able-bodied male.
