On February 1, you published a letter from James Kelly of Cheshire who said he had been discouraged from applying for a PGCE to train as an English teacher because he did not have GCSE maths.

If he passes our interview at Manchester Metropolitan University, he can take our maths test, which is GCSE equivalent.

There are a lot of people in Mr Kelly’s position and they are definitely not discouraged from applying through the Graduate Teacher Training Registry in the normal way.
