So, woe betide Teachers’ TV, or rather Teachers TV, as the channel became last week when, without warning, it dropped its apostrophe.
Andrew Bethell, the channel’s chief executive, insists the decision was deliberate. “By removing the apostrophe we have removed the implication that Teachers TV belongs just to teachers,” he said. “We address the whole school workforce and a growing audience of parents and others interested in education. Removing the apostrophe helps make us more inclusive.”
Another media decision over titles is also likely to upset the pedants.
Some have spotted that the “teacher man” column in News International’s free thelondonpaper is written by a teaching assistant. Blame workforce remodelling.
