Schools will receive money to compensate them when teachers need time off to complete masters qualifications, the NASUWT conference was told.
Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary, said the qualifications would be free of charge and would help new and experienced teachers.
The Government has committed to offer the qualifications at no cost to teachers in the first five years of their careers. But Mr Balls indicated this might be extended by stressing that it was important that the courses did not create a two-tier profession.
