Teachers are to base maths lessons around football and fashion to engage pupils.
Alan Johnson, the Education Secretary, this week announced pound;2 million of investment in a teaching programme based on “real life” issues aimed at tackling the problem of pupils losing interest in maths in the first three years of secondary school. A further pound;2 million was put into the programme by children’s charity the Bowland Trust.
Lesson ideas will be considered by a steering group of experts, and materials are expected to be ready for publication in paper form, and on CD, DVD and online by the autumn.
